COACH PARKER
An industry standard level 2 qualification for Our Parks coaches developed in partnership with UK Coaching, BUCS and funded by Sport England and The National Lottery.
THE QUALIFICATION
This qualification prepares learners for employment as a Coach Parker. A level 2 Coach Parker is able to plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions independently, although they may work as part of a larger team. The qualification introduces learners to the practical and theoretical aspects of planning, delivering and evaluating Our Parks sessions.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The qualification is designed for those who wish to become involved as a Coach Parker delivering Our Parks sessions. The Coach Parker may be involved in the provision of coaching sessions of a more ‘drop in’ nature and may be meeting the needs of people keen to participate on an ad hoc basis.
The 1st 4sport Level 2 Coach Parker focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to plan, deliver and evaluate Our Parks sessions independently, although they may work as part of a larger coaching team, preparing them for employment as a Coach Parker.
TOTAL QUALIFICATION: 27 HOURS
GUIDED LEARNING: 8 HOURS
PROGRESSIVE OPPORTUNITIES:
Progression opportunities include employment (paid or voluntary) as a Coach Parker delivering Our Parks sessions or progression onto other sport-specific and/or industry-relevant qualifications in coaching, such as the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Sport and Physical Activity).
THE QUALIFICATION
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for Our Parks coaches by UK Coaching and Our Parks. The information was gathered through valid research and consultation with a range of stakeholders including Our Parks and UK Coaching. It has been aligned to the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) professional standards for Coach.
Successful learners could progress on to the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sport, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport or sports development.
THE ELEARNING
In October - November 2020, we developed the Coach Parker eLearning course an 18 hour course which all learners must pass before attending their in-person assessment day. While lockdown and delivery was on hold both UK Coaching and BUCS alongside Our Parks tested platform and debuged ready for the initial launch.
The Coach Parker eLearning provides a blended learning journey for trainee Coach Parkers across four eLearning modules, complimented by full access to the UK Coaching learning and development platform, and a face-to-face assessment day which is delivered via the Our Parks Delivery Centre.
The eLearning is broken down into four separate modules covering:
- Role of the Coach Parker
- The Coach Parker in Practice
- Technical coaching requirements for the Coach Parker
- Practical Application – planning a session.
